On the morning of August 1, 2020 retired Fire Captain Barney Barnes passed away, he was 87 years old. Barney started his career with CDF / CAL FIRE as a seasonal firefighter in 1962. He worked most of his career in the San Mateo Santa Cruz and Santa Clara Units. He retired as a Fire Captain in the Santa Clara Unit in 1988.I worked with Barney in the early eighties at Sunol Station. I remember him as being soft-spoken and friendly. He always had a smile on his face just like you see here. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, the family does not plan to have a service at the present time.
