James Edward Sweeney

James lived in Cresskill, NJ for most of his early life, moved to Lake Arrowhead, CA in 1968, and moved to Yucaipa, CA in September 2013. He served in the United States Navy “Seabees” from 1960-1964 as a heavy equipment operator, and with his fire service experience, was detailed on occasion to various base fire stations. Altogether, James served 38 years in the fire service, and was a member of the Cresskill Fire Department (beginning as a “Junior Firefighter” before turning 18), and retired as a member of the Crest Forest Fire District in Crestline, CA. During his later years, James worked in the sales and repair of fire equipment, which kept him in touch with the people and the job he loved so much. He worked his way up to become Southern California Area Manager before his retirement in 2006. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with Anne, watching John Wayne movies, following the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Notre Dame football.
Preceded in death by his father James M. Sweeney and his mother Jennie Sweeney, both of Cresskill, NJ.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Anne; brother Robert of Boonton, NJ; son Michael of Beaumont, CA; daughter Kathryn of Beaumont, CA; daughter Regina Thomas of Washington, and 5 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 5 – 8pm with Rosary at 7:00 pm both at the Weaver Mortuary Chapel in Beaumont. Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 3, 2014 at 1:00pm at the Weaver Mortuary Chapel in Beaumont with interment to follow at the Mt. View Cemetery in Beaumont. Class A uniform is requested (if not on response status).
