Doyle Metheny was born in Elmer Oklahoma in 1932 and passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving family on May 2, 2015. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Dicky Metheny, in 1972. He is survived by his wife Gwendolyn, his daughter Gwenda Ashburn (Richard), his son David (Tina), his grandchildren Yvonne Fleet (Erik), Rachele Gundlach (Brent), Richard Ray Metheny, Jeremy Metheny (Trish), and great grandchildren Hannah Elliott, Maci, Lexi and Cooper Metheny.
Doyle married his high school sweetheart, Gwen, their Junior year of high school in 1949, and they would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in May of this year. Doyle worked many jobs to support his family including the California Division of Forestry, retiring in 1987 after 30 years of service with the State of California. After retiring Doyle and Gwen purchased the Eternal Treehouse and Cafe on the Avenue of the Giants in Redcrest and enjoyed the locals and tourists until retiring again in 2003. Doyle was a loving and proud self-made man. His final request was to pass at home with his family and have his ashes spread in the back yard where the deer and quail feed. His family is honored to grant this request.
There will be a family memorial for Doyle later this week. Donations can be made in honor of Doyle to the Cancer Society , Hospice, Visiting Angels or Northcoast Children’s Services. A sincere thank you to Hospice, Visiting Angels, St. Joseph Hospital of Eureka and the doctors and nurses who cared for him. A special thank you to all the wonderful California Division of Forestry comrades who are sending cards and prayers and providing support at this time.
