I’m saddened to report the passing of former CDF Director Jerry Partain who died peacefully in his sleep last night after battling a lengthy illness.
Jerry was appointed by Governor Deukmejian in 1983 and served as CDF’s director until 1988, a period which he considered the highlight of his long career in forestry. He was the co-founder of the Forestry program at Humboldt State University where he taught for 30 years. Jerry was also a WWII veteran, serving our country in the U.S. Navy.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Betty, two daughters, a son, four grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Jerry was preceded in death by another son, Steve. In honor of Jerry’s service to CDF/CAL FIRE and the State of California, I am directing flags at all CAL FIRE facilities to be flown at half-staff through sunset on Friday, July 8, 2016.
Details on services will be shared once they are finalized.
Chief Ken Pimlott
