Passing of Don Ashley

Donald E. ASHLEY, died peacefully on September 12, 2016 in Riverside California, at the age of 89. Don is survived by three sons, Tom, David, and Richard, 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Lampson-Ashley.

Don was born on September 20, 1926 in San Bernardino, California, to Percy and Alice Ashley. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and was assigned to duty in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  After being discharged, he began his career with the California Division of Forestry where he attained the rank of Captain. During his 38 years of service in the CDF his favorite assignment was fighting forest fires.

Don was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 28 of Riverside, the California State Sheriffs’ Association, and the CDF Retired Employees’ Association.

A visitation is scheduled for 10:00am and funeral service to follow at 11:00am, September 23rd, at Miller-Jones Mortuary, 26770 Murrieta Road, Sun City, California, (951) 672-0777, with a reception to follow. Private inurnment at Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to CDF Museum, 3800 Sierra Way, San Bernardino, CA 92405.
