Jim Walker Childre

Longtime Yreka resident Jim Walker Childre passed away on December 13, 2019 at Madrone Hospice in Yreka. He was 84 years old.
Jim was born on February 26, 1935 in Laurel, Mississippi to Rufus and Lora Childre. When Jim was three, the family moved to Gilchrist, Oregon, where he attended school. Jim entered the U.S. Army at the age of 18, became a paratrooper and attained the rank of Sergeant. In 1961, he started his career with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF, now CalFire.) He worked his way from Engineer up to Captain during his 45 year career, working throughout Northern California. He retired as an Air-Attack Captain. He enjoyed building large model airplanes, and was a member of the American Model Airplane Association.
Jim is survived by his wife and lifelong friend, Linda Childre; three children, Julie, Douglas and Jeff Childre; and numerous grandchildren. He was loved by many.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
