Honor Guard
what is the honor guard?
The CAL FIRE Local 2881 Honor Guard was established and founded by Shep Shepherd in December 1994 at the Local 2881 annual convention. Membership is comprised of active, retired, and associate CAL FIRE Local 2881 members and is supported by Local 2881, its members and donations to the Honor Guard Fund. Membership of the Honor Guard will consist of active and retired members of CAL FIRE and must be members in good standing of CAL FIRE Local 2881.
The group provides assistance to the families of CAL FIRE Local 2881 members in making arrangements and details involving funeral and memorial services for both active and retired CAL FIRE Local 2881 members.
Almost 30 later, this proud group is called the CAL FIRE Local 2881 Honor Guard and Pipes & Drums.
The first performance of the Honor Guard was the dedication of the grounds for the California Fallen Firefighter Memorial in Sacramento’s Capitol Park. Since that day in May of 1995, the Honor Guard has performed at numerous funerals, memorials, and other functions.
The Honor Guard presents the colors and honors graduates at all of the CAL FIRE graduation ceremonies.
Honor Guard duties include:
- The Posting of Colors
- Last Alarm Ceremonies
